Do You Laugh Enough?
Hey! Welcome back! Soooo, I've been away from blogging for a couple of months now but I promise I have a formidable excuse! In mid June, I had a medical emergency and it's been affecting me horribly for the last few weeks. I don't want to go into too much detail (honestly, I'm debating on making it into it's own separate post because it has been a long journey and absolutely painful) but I was in the hospital and have been on bed rest the majority of the time. You would think I would crank out a ton of writing but I was too sick to even do that until a couple of weeks ago. Because of that ordeal, I learned a big lesson on being positive when stuff hits the fan and keeping my happiness with me in any situation.
You've all heard advice at graduation parties, birthday parties, etc. about getting at least five to ten minutes of laughter each day. I don't know about you but when I first heard that all I thought of is how easy is that? Five minutes a day laughing? Easy peasy. So, you try it for a day, keeping track of how many seconds you spend laughing and figure out you can barely make two minutes of laughing. As an individual that is terribly shy and binge watches Game of Thrones, five minutes became absolutely impossible. So, why do people still insist on laughing that extensively long? Did they even attempt it? First, let's remember why laughing is so gosh darn great for us.
As we learned in school (back in the day for some of us), we were taught that laughing reduced pain, anxiety, and stress by releasing endorphins (a brain chemical that is a natural pain killer). The act of laughing releases dopamine (that brain chemical that makes you feel reallll good inside) and transitions your brain waves into "gamma frequency" which basically boost your memory and improves your memory recall. You'll also feel like you're on top of the world and appreciate your blessings. Fun fact, my mom is a psychologist and college psychology professor so she taught me a few things and is the bomb. Continuing on, laughter assists on improving your immune system and works effortlessly to build your body's natural defenses. Can you imagine how you'll change mentally and physically after consistently giggling for ten minutes a day?
How could we even begin to achieve five minutes of laughing all the way to ten minutes? It seems unimaginable but once you break it down, the inconceivable becomes obtainable. The first step is to get out of our own mindset and the way our life is and how it would look with so many laughs in a day. For a laugh to erupt out of our body, it would require a trigger (obviously) like a joke or humorous story. Usually that would require positive interactions with other people or doing something positive, right? To express our happiness that much needs a whole life created for it. You would need a healthy and positive lifestyle, along with being surrounded by positive people to have those hearty conversations. You have to go out and adventure through life to earn the physical act of happiness. You have to go to get togethers, play with your dog, or choose the best Melissa McCarthy movie. You have to choose happiness and get out of your comfort zone blanket to start laughing your heart out.
A good time to really be laughing is right around the cold and flu season! Nobody got time for that. ;-) I wanted to share this adorable video I found scrolling through Youtube that you might enjoy. Who doesn't have the slightest obsession with cute baby and dog videos?!
Thank you so much for coming back and reading my blog again. I really missed it and the joy it brought me. Let me know down in the comments different methods you get yourself to laugh.
