Essential Products for a Dewy Face

Hey, girl, hey! It's been a hot minute but I'm so excited to share this post with you! In recent years, Youtube, beauty bloggers, and Pinterest have been BLOWING up with matte make up looks. Matte is gorgeous and suits every single individual but what about a good dewy look? I don't see as much heat over it that I was hoping for. I mean, all those pictures beauty influencers post are gorgeous with a beautiful highlight but not many with a glowy, dewy face. I've been a matte girl (oily skin, y'all) for years but once I found trustworthy products that allow me to branch out into this whole new dewy world!

A dewy face adds so much radiance and youth to your face while looking absolutely gorgeous! Taking it a step too far though, you'll look oily. Not cute at all. You have to find that balance and find products that won't betray you like that. As an oily girl myself, it was a hard step into the world when I tried out this type of make up look and haven't looked back. I have received SO MANY compliments on my skin, even though I do have problematic skin and I'm always being asked what products I'm wearing. When I tell my other beauty friends that I'm wearing dewy products, I always get a warning side eye for mixing a dewy foundation with my oily skin, along with "Matte foundation is always best for oily skin."

But, who cares? Make-up is for fun and washes off at the end of the night so why not try new looks and play around to look like our best self. Tea for thought.... Anyways, let me share my secret essential products for a successful dewy face!

Essential Products for a Striking, Dewy Face

Moisturizer/ Skin care: moisturizer is essential for every single make-up look and should never be forgotten. Whatever make up look you're going for, include some skin care products that will come to your aid. For example, if you want an oil-free, matte face, include a moisturizer that is free of oil and will mattify your skin. Same goes for a glowy face, include serums, face lotion, etc. that will add some radiance to your skin. It's the secret weapon in your arsenal and should be utilized.

My product of choice for moisturizer is the Garnier Brightening and Smoothing Moisturizer and it adds a subtle glow for my bare days but adds a "glow from within" to my face underneath make up. After reading the other reviews, people from all age ranges had great results as well.

Primer and Skin Mist: I used to never a primer and facial mist gal until Youtube convinced me to at least try a couple and I tried some that have been raved about and have definitely noticed a difference! If you have a few problems, you can easily fix that right up with a few primers and be as good as new. You first have to figure out all the problems to correct (smoothing primers for enlarged pores, color correcting for redness, and on and on) and research the best products for you. In the case of our dewy look we're going for, I love radiance primers to slap on and for me personally, oil control for my T-zone. Adding in a skin mist before foundation will add an extra wave of hydration to enhance your glow as well. It's a great and effortless product that you can't not love!

My products of choice would be the Pixi Glow Mist as the skin mist and the L'Oreal Light Infusing Primer. There are many others out there but within the drugstore arena, these are my tried and true. I'm actually out on both (boo! I'm crying currently so don't mind me) and need to go out to buy more! To apply the Pixi Glow Mist, I spray it before I put on my foundation and after I apply my entire face. To apply the L'Oreal Light Infusing Primer, I apply it at the highest points of my face so on my cheekbones, above my brows, and the center of my face surrounding my T-zone. Putting this product on the t-zone will automatically make you look like a grease chicken so avoid that not-so glamorous look.

Foundation: OK, this will be my favorite product of all those listed because I'm absolutely obsessed with this foundation. But I'll get into it in just a quick second. You need to try a foundation by a brand that you trust when you're stepping out of your comfort zone. If you're still unsure and debating, look up videos or pictures of the foundation on other people to gauge whether its what you're looking for. I hate wasting my money, like I'm sure you do as well, and want to make sure it's absolutely worth it.
My highly recommended product of choice would be the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy & Smooth Foundation. It is absolutely amazing! I've been using the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation for so long and decided to try out it's sister product and have been equally impressed. Both are great go-to products should be in everyone's collection especially since they're both under $8! Now a days, I'm always reaching for my Dewy & Smooth foundation and use a beauty sponge to apply it. A brush works great with it but it doesn't look as natural as I prefer and looks more full coverage so I usually utilize the beauty sponge to pick up the excess product.

Face Powder:
this is an optional step but for my T-zone I like to apply a powder foundation or translucent powder to set the foundation. I don't feel like slipping and sliding around when I could be looking cute, you got me? I actually don't have a favorite that I'm obsessing over so if you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments! I tend to pick up a drugstore powder, like the Maybelline Fit Me Powder (It must be a Maybelline day!) and use a powder brush to dust it on.

Highlighter: This is and always will be my FAVORITE step. Who doesn't like a good highlight? I have SO many recommendations ranging from Becca, E.L.F., Wet N' Wild, and so many others. I'll have a post later on all my recommended highlighters that you NEED to have. For now, just use your favorite highlighter and smack it on your cheekbones, above the brow, tip of the nose, cupid's bow, a teeny amount on the chin, and you're glowing!

For a dewy look, I prefer to use cream products, mainly for bronzer and blush, just to have more of a natural appearance but powders do look just as lovely! For the summer season, I prefer cream products and then during the colder seasons, I break out the powder products.

By the way, were you just as shocked to how quick fall is coming? Wasn't it just the beginning of summer last week?? This year is going by SO quick but the next few months are full of my favorite make up looks, holidays, and weather so it could go by just a little bit quicker. ;-)

Well, ta-ta for now!
xo,
H.
